STAVERN

We got stuck in Oslo for two days waiting for better weather. It was getting worse and the weather forecast was changing every hour. So we have decided to move to the coast. Our first stop after two boring days was Stavern. A meteorological phenomenon blesses Stavern with 200 sunny days every year and it was a good choice for us. Finally, we got sunny weather in this charming town with narrow streets and old houses. We strolled around the Fredriksvern Dockyard. The decision to build it was made in 1750 by Frederick V, King of Denmark and Norway. Most of the buildings and fortifications were already completed by 1754 with the surrounding ramparts and moats. In 1814 the yard became the main base for the Norwegian Navy.
