We spent the whole day in the Olympus National Park, there is located Mount Olympus, the highest peak (2917 m) in Greece. It is part of the Olympus massif near the Gulf of Thérmai of the Aegean Sea. Olympus National Park hosts more than 1700 plant species, some rare and endemic, as well as wolves, jackals, deer, and more than 100 bird species. Mount Olympus’s slopes are thickly forested and its peaks are snowcapped and often shrouded in clouds. According to Homer’s Odyssey, however, the peak never has storms and it basks in cloudless “pure upper air”. Later writers elaborated upon this description, which may have originated from the observation that the peak is often visible above a belt of relatively low clouds. In Greek mythology, Mount Olympus was regarded as the abode of the gods and the site of the throne of Zeus.
