HARDANGERFJORD

We crossed the biggest high mountain plateau in Northern Europe with vast plateaus, deep, lush valleys and high mountains, glaciers in the far distance, waterfalls, and azure fjords. Hardangervidda offers a variety of experiences starting from where the road snakes lazily across the wide plains to the narrow, steep, untamed valley of Måbødalen until suddenly we were no longer in the high mountain region but in the little village of Eidfjord innermost in the Hardangerfjord. The Hardangerfjord region offers a spectacular natural environment, it is 179 km long and it is the third-longest fjord in the world. The greatest depth is 900 meters. We got bad weather here, so we could not do any activities. We made overnight in Jondal which is located on the southeast side of the Hardangerfjord on the Folgefonna peninsula. It is bounded by the large Folgefonna glacier to the southeast (inside Folgefonna National Park). After lunch, we took the ferry to the other side of the fjord and from Tørvikbygd we drove narrow Road 49 to the North to the famous waterfall Vøringfossen.
