The dusty road brought us to Codrii Reserve – the most popular and oldest reserve in the country. It was founded in 1971 and it consists out of three functional zones: strictly defended zone (area in 720 hectares), buffer zone (4357 hectares), and transitional zone (2 km around the buffer zone). Codrii is made up of a series of magnificent valleys, sinuous pathways, towering groves, and roaring ravines. You’ll find here over 1000 species of protected plants, 145 bird species, and 43 mammal species. We took a two hours guided hike (300 MDL) with a local biologist from the local museum.
