We drove up a 6-kilometer-long sneaky road from Al Hamra to a unique mountainous village located 1,000 m above sea level on the mountain foothills of the Hajar Mountains. We parked near the campground before the village and walked around ancient stone buildings, half buried in a thick date plantation framed by grey limestone slopes behind. Several marked paths around the village and surrounding canyon pass through terraces and gardens around old mud houses with palm frond roofs built on top of solid rocks. It is a busy place full of tourists who come for a visit and lunch at Misfat Old House (buffet – 4 OMR).
