After the horrible 3 months in Mombasa, it was time to leave for our break. Since we did not plan to make a break in Kenya, finding a safe and reliable parking place for our newly repaired truck was pretty adventurous. We made a deal with government officials in one province to park in their office parking, but we realized that logistics would be complicated for us. So our friend recommended that we park next to her house in Mombasa. We triple-checked that everything was ok with neighbors and security in advance. Then, on the day of our arrival, we found out that the head of security of that compound had changed his mind.
And here, our nightmare started. It was already pretty late when we got another offer to park outside Mombasa in some tiny settlement. So we took a bus (🎟️150 KES) and “enjoyed” a 40-minute bumpy ride to that place. We were shocked after our arrival, but what could we do? There were no other options except gated parking at Elim Church in Mombasa (🅿️300 KES/day), but we did not feel safe anymore to keep our truck with some strangers in Mombasa. So we made a deal with them.
We bought a wire extension the other day and drove with our truck to that place. We explained to locals how to take care of our truck and left it there, hopefully in safe hands. On the way back, we made a deal with a tuk-tuk to bring us back for 600 KES, but of course, as usual, we had bad luck and got a flat tire just a few kilometers in front of Mombasa 🤪😱.
