MAASAI VILLAGE

There are several Maasai villages around Amboseli. Visiting a Maasai village is a great way to learn about the traditions and culture of the Maasai people, but it could also be a scam. They tried to charge us 3000 KES per person, but we ultimately paid 500 KES per person after lengthy negotiations. So, make sure that you fix the price before the visit with the village chief.

The Maasai are one of Africa’s most famous tribes. They are known for their colorful clothing, pastoral lifestyle, and high jumps. The village comprises small huts with thatched roofs made from cow dung. The huts are arranged in a circle, with livestock in the middle and a thorny fence to protect them from predators.

One of the community members guided us through the village, and we looked inside his house. Others performed welcome group dances and demonstrated their traditional Maasai fire-making skills. Of course, we could buy some Maasai jewelry and handicrafts at their small market at the back of the village.
