It was another smooth and efficient border crossing. We arrived at the first gate, where you must wash your hands and register in some health system. Then we parked next to the building with a scanner; they asked us if we had some baggage; we told them that we did not have it, and then we proceeded to the immigration building, with four windows. First is to get a stamp out of Uganda, second is to stamp our CPD with Ugandian Customs, third is to get a visa and stamp to enter Rwanda, and last, to get a stamp to our CPD from Rwandian Customs. All was done within minutes, with no filling of any papers or payments (we already had our online visa for Rwanda – 50 USD; they asked for a printed copy). You can change money at the border; they offered a 1400 RWF / USD rate. Once we returned to the truck, the customs officer showed up and wanted to see the truck inside; since he had shoes, he watched around just from our stairs for a minute, and the check was done. Then, we passed through the last gate, where they controlled passports and truck insurance. After a few kilometers, we stopped at the Byumba, where we changed money (1 USD / 1399.50 RWF) and registered and bought a sim card in the MTN service center (60 GB / 5000 RWF / 2 GB per day / 30 days or 30 GB / 10000 RWF / 30 days). Drivers should observe overtaking, speed limits, and pedestrian crossings because there are many cameras and traffic police around. They are also focused on seat belts. After some time, we are enjoying our LHD vehicle again since we drive back on the right side of the road.
