We arrived from Kampala in an hour through a modern expressway (10000 UGX) to the pleasant and chilled city of Entebbe. It is set just outside Kampala, near the banks of Lake Victoria. This buzzing city is the former capital and has made Hollywood connections through numerous films about the area; it also enjoys links to NGO donors to the region and wealthy expat communities.
We parked between the noisy Tipsy Cow Bar and Entebbe Botanical Gardens (🎟️20000 UGX), a must-see testament to Uganda’s natural beauty and biodiversity. We chilled at White Sands Beach (🎟️5000 UGX) and Aero Beach (🎟️5000 UGX), situated next to the airport, which was the site of an Israeli airborne commando raid on the night of July 3, 1976, that freed 103 hostages from a jet hijacked by Palestinian and West German militants.
We could walk to the modern Victoria Mall from our excellent parking location. It is a good mall with a Carrefour, Forex Bureau (3600 UGX / 1 USD), and two nice restaurants. The bar and club area was also within walking distance; we loved busy Paddy O’ganda’s Irish Bar and Street Club the most.
