We’ve got some young visitor in our truck for a few days, so we have changed our itinerary to relax on the banks of Liptovská Mara dam in northern Slovakia, on the Váh river near Liptovský Mikuláš. The dam was built to prevent floods between the years 1965-1975 covering an area of 22 sq. kilometers with max. depth of 45 meters. Construction of the dam required moving of inhabitants of 9 villages which were inundated, including several cultural and historical monuments, although the most important of them were moved out and are now the main exhibits in the Museum of Liptov Village in Pribylina. The most important summer holiday resort on the shores of the Liptovská Mara dam is the village Liptovský Trnovec, where we have parked in Mara Camp (11,70 EUR / person, 10 EUR / truck, Bonaqa 0,5 l / 1,80 EUR, Fried chicken steak 4 EUR, French Fries 2,50 EUR, Fried cheese with tartar sauce 4,50 EUR) – the beach is nice, but the camp amenities are not so well maintained and bit old. We made also a day visit to the nearby Aquapark Tatralandia – it is one of the largest year-round water parks in Central Europe. It has 19 saunas, 26 slides, and 14 thermal and saltwater pools with year-round temperatures of 30°C (entrance with GOPASS is 25 EUR / day, Burger 10,50 EUR, Hot-Dog 7,50 EUR, Kofola 0,5 l / 2,30 EUR, Zlaty Bazant Beer 0,5 l / 2,40 EUR, Rajec Water 0,75 l / 2,90 EUR).
