On the way to the north, we stopped for a while at Voss Waterfall. Then we drove to Aurland from where we took a narrow and steep scenic route, which was not really made for trucks. We climbed up to the Stegastein View Point. This structure, which juts out 30 meters from the mountainside, 650 meters above the fjord, offers an unparalleled panorama of Aurlandsfjord. Then we slowly continued on route FV243 from Aurland to Lærdal, popularly known as “The snow road”. We drove slowly through an amazing landscape and got powerful impressions and the contrasts between the fjord and the high mountain region where snow lies on the ground for most of the year. The road was opened in 1967 and runs over the mountains with the highest point at 1306 meters. The road is closed in the winter.
