Our journey to Iceland has started in Wismar – a city in northern Germany, on the Baltic Sea, known for its well-preserved medieval city center with its monumental churches. In this cold weather, we were strolling across the cobbled streets to the impressive marketplace with its carefully restored townhouses and “water art” – a spring-fed stone well built around 1600 to supply the city with water. A city with many historical buildings of different styles from different eras has been listed in UNESCO. We were here last time in 1995 since that city has changed a lot, also parking rules are more strict now, so we got our first fine for parking in the harbor – 10 EUR lost.
