Our first stop on our testing trip was Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It is set along the Danube River by the border with Austria and Hungary. It’s surrounded by vineyards and the Little Carpathian Mountains, crisscrossed with forested hiking and cycling trails. The pedestrian-only, 18th-century old town is known for its lively bars and cafes. Perched atop a hill, the reconstructed Bratislava Castle overlooks old town and the Danube. We were lucky and we found a nice place for parking just a few steps from the Danube River with a great view of the old town and castle.
Corona Annex – July 17, 2020
We have reached Bratislava again after two years on the way to Romania and Moldova. The parking spot by the Danube river has changed a lot – there is now newly built sandy City Beach “Tyrsak” with “container fast food” joints and a cozy sitting area near the river with an unforgettable view of the castle and city in the background. Food was tasty and we think it’s a good improvement of this area (breakfasts from 3,9 €, nasi goreng 6,9 €, tasty ice cream 2 €, coffee 2 €). The parking is still free and the toilets are open 24 hours. After the walk to the Devin Castle, we took a rich dinner downtown in the Koliba Kamzik restaurant (great Slovak specialties, homemade lemonades, Bakalar Beer – total for four – 70 €).
