After four hours (⛽ diesel 25,16 TRY / l, 🛣️ HGS – 253 TRY / class 2) we arrived at Çanakkale located in northwestern Turkey at the mouth of the Koca on the Asian side of the Dardanelles. Originally a 15th-century Ottoman fortress had by the 18th century developed a reputation for its pottery. The pottery industry reached its peak in the 18th and 19th centuries and has declined, but the city has become one of the top centers of the fish-canning Turkish industry. We spent there two nights to join a sizeable student population of the highly regarded Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University that loves nothing more than to eat, drink, and party in the atmospheric cobbled lanes around the Clock Tower (1897) and along the sweeping waterfront promenade, where you will find famous 12 tons Troy Horse Statue used in the movie “Troy”. Our favorite pub was Jokers and Helix (Efes beer 0,5 l / 47 TRY).
