We spent the evening in the small mountainous town in Central Greece which recently became the biggest organized ski resort in the country. In the evening we walked uphill on cobbled streets with small houses to get great panoramic views over the Bell Tower, which sits in the center on a huge and steep cliff. Built at an altitude of 950 meters, high on the slopes of Mount Parnassos, where the air is fresh and our appetite was large, we took a dinner (64 EUR / 2 pax) in the most famous local taverna To Tsoukali. The owner guided us through the menu of the day and gave us a great culinary experience of traditional Greek cuisine, it was probably one of our best dinners in years. Arachova is not famous only for its family-run tavernas, but also for its black wine (brusque), colorful textiles, carpets and rugs, handicrafts, and woodcut creations. We did taste also traditional Formaela cheese, a delicious cheese, with a piquant and rich flavor, which comes directly from producers and is made traditionally using sheep’s or goat’s milk.
