We made it to the harbor of the picturesque and laid-back town of Galaxidi. Morning walks and quiet evenings with food or drink are very much the order of the day, as locals say, Galaxidi “talks through its silence”. The town is tucked away along the northern shores of the Corinthian Gulf and sheltered from the wind by the reassuring presence of the mountains. The port was a major ship-building center in the 19th century, from where many ships set sail to plow the Mediterranean Sea. Nowadays, the town has become a living tribute to Greek seamanship, embodying the spirit of the past in the captains’ residences and neoclassical houses, maritime-themed statuettes, two charming harbors, and an attractive church perched on the hilltop. Many local fish restaurants, cafes, and bars line the quay.
